Dear Sister
Allow me to be a tad bit facetious for a moment. I want to encourage you and our brothers to be “purple” teachers! As followers of Christ, “purple” teachers understand, in all humility, that they are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that they may declare the praises of him who called them out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2: 9). That Light sends “purple” teachers into the educational arena as they purposely keep in step with the Spirit of God to do the impossible: teach every student.
How is teaching every student on your roster possible when some claim that only a particular group of teachers can teach a particular group of students? Remember, I deemed you a “purple” teacher, not a particular teacher. Being a “purple” teacher has absolutely nothing to do with race, ethnicity, or skin color but it has everything to do with the Spirit of God who has been sent to be your Helper. As a “purple” teacher, you must be in place to practice and perfect the work of God in you to transform students of all colors/skill sets by God’s Word and God’s Spirit.
A “purple” teacher-- speaking, thinking, and praying the word of Truth-- will stand out as a vessel for God to reach the unsearchable depths of a student’s heart, mind, spirit, and soul.
Here’s your peace: accept His work in you by faith. The next teacher or school will be the benefactors of your year-long, God-given work!
Consider the life of Jesus before the multitude. I refuse to believe there weren’t various types of learners in the crowd: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. Yet they were able to comprehend His message whether they accepted it or not. As a “purple” teacher, trust the Lord Jesus to give you the lesson/curriculum to present.
Whatever you do, don’t get lazy, complacent, or disgruntled! Gravitate to the fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit as gems to help you shape students and co-workers. You can’t just love the children. You’re a teacher. So dig in with your God and teach.
Truly, God’s love is a game-changer! Mediate on God’s definition of love and watch your whole day transform from block to block: Love is patient (towards the student who thinks the halls are an open track); love is kind (to that student who needs a temporary ID every day). It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor (parents who want to interrupt instructional time because their child has just been suspended), it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered (by co-workers who form clicks), and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres (1 Corinthians 13:4-7), especially when a three-day weekend is just around the corner.
Sister, share this with our brothers in education: as a maturing “purple” teacher, be encouraged by the first few words in the Bible, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1).” Ponder that scripture/ Then, let God be creative in you!
