The School Resource Officer asked, “Did y’all pray this morning?” Yes, I replied. The question was asked because TODAY was a day like no other. For whatever reason, a handful of students started to change mental gears like our sudden warmer weather. A fight in one hall led to someone shouting “gun” in an already tense and fragile arena called education. On top of that, student rumors turned up potential catfights, but the plots were revealed and canceled. Thank you, Jesus.
In my school, at least two or three educators gather to pray for the school each day. Yes, we do the common areas such as the halls and cafeteria, yet the Lord recently encouraged us to follow the data. Yes, God was using the data to lead and encourage our prayer strategy!
What did we see in the data? As you could imagine, the greatest percentage of unruly activity happens in the classroom. This makes plenty of sense given the number of combined classes we take on when a teacher is out or when a substitute teacher can’t be found. Under the Lord’s guidance we began to pray through every classroom. This required an early morning start before the actual school day. Every classroom is now spiritually cleaned Monday through Friday.
It is written, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. Mathew 18:20.”
Every morning our faith in God’s word leans to this truth. Sometimes there are two of us and sometimes there are three. That’s all it takes!
Despite the foolery of the morning, I stand on God’s word:
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:8
It’s days like this when you can smile at the presence of God in your school because it was Y-O-U who brought Jesus into your classroom, hallways, conference rooms, and even the restrooms.
Keep going, saints. We’re on the winning team.
